A July 4th Alaskan Cruise

Thinking about going on an Alaskan cruise for Independence Day? Unsure whether to go to the Caribbean, stay on dry land or head to the glaciers?

I was lucky enough to join friends who provided entertainment on a ship back before the shut down.

I’d like to note, due to me joining as entertainment crew we did not do a full trip, however we did do the same ports twice with the turn around 🙂

For every cruise I’ve been on regardless of the company, they always do their upmost to celebrate a given holiday.  In the case of July 4th, we were met with some beautiful placements of patriotism and not in any intrusive way.

In fact even those who weren’t necessarily celebrating this holiday found the decor to be tasteful, the food options delicious and the entertainment fun.

We were met with lots of fun and of course typical American foods, Barbecue, Burgers, American Beers and yes a delicious giant cake.

Outside of these great celebrations.  An Alaskan cruise is definitely a must do for those who like to cruise or that have done the Caribbean.

The weather first of all was a mixture of summer hot and freezing cold… when we hit ports we were met with weather in the high 70’s F sometimes reaching the 80’s… yep we were in T-Shirts!  Don’t be fooled though, as we pulled close to glaciers the temperature was freezing cold, so cold in fact we ended up purchasing fleeces and jackets from the ship’s store that they cleverly created a popup shop outside on the pool deck when we were pulling through these cold spots… a great marketing technique if anything else.

The views on the Alaskan cruises are breath taking.  We watched huge masses of ice walls crash into the water causes a huge boom, it was absolutely incredible.

During your cruise you’ll likely stop in some great little ports including Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan.

There are some incredible restaurants and bars in these ports, be sure to check them all out.. I couldn’t pick a favorite, they were all great fun with lots of karaoke, dancing and friendly locals.
